Unhappy at Work? This Question Might Help You Decide

You think: I need to get out of here

You’ve lost motivation. You’re tired. Or stressed. Maybe you feel stuck or undervalued – like you’re not using your full potential. The job is draining instead of energising. You catch yourself thinking: I want to get out of here.

Here's the question that helps many of my clients: Do I need to leave – or do I just want it to stop? That one question forces you to take a closer look. Is it the job itself? Or is it something else?

What you're really longing for

You realise: what you really want is for it to stop. The stress. The tension. The feeling that you're not seen or appreciated. You long for peace – not necessarily a new job.

Still, the idea keeps coming back: maybe I should just move on?

And that’s where it gets tricky. Because deep down, you might not want to leave. You started this job for a reason. You believe in the mission. Or you still care about the work. But something is off. Maybe you don’t feel recognised. Maybe you’ve been crossing your own boundaries for too long. Maybe the culture isn’t a good fit. Or you feel stuck, because you’re not using your strengths.

Why it’s hard to decide

At the same time, you’re not sure. Maybe the money is good. Maybe you have no idea what else you’d want to do. Or you’re afraid to bring it up at work – worried it won’t be received well.

So you stay. Stuck in doubt. In limbo.

And it seems like a safe spot. You no longer have to give it your all. It doesn’t matter much anyway. You also don’t have to make that scary move just yet. But over time, it becomes an uncomfortable place: you don’t feel connected anymore, and you’ve lost your direction.

That’s why this one question is so powerful: Do you actually need to leave – or are you simply hoping things get easier?

What coaching can do

This is where coaching can help. Not as a quick fix, but as an invitation to slow down and explore what’s really going on. Coaching helps you face that one question – and take it seriously, at your own pace.

So you can make decisions not out of frustration or fear – but from clarity and confidence.
